The Performance Continuum is a very useful model for leaders and facilitators. It allows you to first diagnose the level of performance of a team by using the Observational Indicators. Once you know the level of performance, the model indicates the style and strategy for the leader to work with the team. Using the right strategy will increase the probability of successful results and will thereby move the team to a higher level of performance.
In addition, the continuum also gives the facilitative leader insight into the level of complexity and duration of a task necessary for the team to be successful. It is common sense that a lower performing team needs a short duration of task and lower complexity of task (straightforward).
The last level of the continuum provides direction on process selection of facilitation - the simplier processes are better for lower performing teams.
